This copper wick is great not only for sucking up excess solder or desoldering, but also for bypassing springs for extra current carrying capability.  

This is the same wick Mountain Electronics uses for most of its spring bypasses.  One foot will give you enough to bypass approximately 12 springs (1 spring uses approximately 1" of wick, on average).
